FAQ’s prior to you new boiler install

Here at Ableforce services we have complied a selection of the most commonly asked questions that we receive from customers prior to a new boiler installation and have provided the answers so you can make an educated decision when it comes to choosing which new boiler is right for you.

Can I install a boiler?

Its imperative to understand that you shouldn’t install a boiler yourself. For good reason, every boiler installation must, by law, be completed by a Gas safe registered engineer who has gone through vital professional training.

If anyone who does try to install a boiler without the relevant qualifications may be putting their home and family at serious risk.

Even though you may think that you are capable and handy with tools, this is a job that should most defiantly be left to the professionals, such as the highly qualified engineers available through Ableforce services.

Do you want a water cylinder or have a high demand for hot water?

If you have multiple bathrooms in your home then it is most likely that you will need a water cylinder to store and heat the water to use when it is needed.

A combi boiler may not be the right boiler option for homes with a high demand of hot water as they may not be powerful enough to fulfil the demand and needs. If you live in a larger home with many bathrooms a system boiler may be a more appropriate option for you.

Do you want your heating and hot water controlled from the same system?

If you have your concerns that you need to save space in your home and want to combine your heating and hot water in to one compact system then a combi boiler could be the best option for you. Unlike other types of boiler systems such as conventional and system, a combi boiler will control your central heating from one unit. This means the taps should always run hot water relatively soon after they have been turned on as you don’t have to wait for a water cylinder to heat up.

Where would you want your new boiler located?

The location of your current boiler may influence what replacement boilers are most suitable. You can choose to change the location of your new boiler when installing, but it’s important to be aware that this could come at added cost. If you want to keep the price of your new boiler replacement down, then it is better to get the new boiler installed in the same location as your old one. You can install your boiler in most rooms in a house as long as the property’s pipework will allow you do so. Many people choose to have their boiler installed within the kitchen or inside a cupboard.

Which type of boiler is the quickest and less disruptive to install?

People generally find that swapping to an energy efficient boiler is greatly beneficial in the long run, despite any disruption that can be caused during installation. If you’re having the same type of boiler installed in the same location as your existing boiler then you may see very little disruption to your household.

Having a different type of boiler could be more disruptive and take longer to install. For example, it is much quicker to swap a combi boiler with another combi boiler than it is to swap a system boiler with a new combi boiler.

Once you have established your central heating needs and know the type of boiler you would like, the next step is to decide on the boiler make and model.

Cost of A New Boiler Installation

The cost of a new boiler installation generally varies greatly depending on your circumstances and which boiler you want to have installed. In this section we have explained some of the components that go into determining the price of your new boiler installation.

How much does a new boiler installation cost?

There’s no fixed rate for a boiler installation as such. All kinds of factors could play a part into the cost, including where you live and whether you’re having a traditional or combi boiler installed, if it will run on gas or electricity, and possibly what brand it is. If you are interested in finding out how much it will cost for a new boiler then it’s best to answer a few quick questions using our quote tool.

The cost of the boiler installation usually includes everything you need: the boiler itself, removal of the old one, and any charges for flushing the old system, doing plumbing work and moving pipes. Be sure to check what is included as part of your installation with us.

Here are some examples of such reasons which are likely to increase the boiler installation cost.

Type of boiler

If you are replacing one type of boiler for a different one (e.g. a conventional to a combi boiler, or vice versa) there will be significantly more work involved in changing them over. You can consequently expect a higher cost for your installation than you would if you were replacing your old boiler with one of the same type.

Boiler brand and model

We offer a range of boiler models from high grade manufacturers. The cost of your boiler replacement will also greatly depend upon the make and model you choose. Although it might be appealing to go for the cheapest option, investing in a higher quality and more efficient boiler could save you more money in the long run. Higher range boilers are usually of a better quality, more efficient and could have a longer duration of life.

Positioning of your boiler

Most boilers are now wall mounted, unlike 30 years ago when boilers were usually floor standing. Changing from a floor standing to a wall mounted boiler will more than likely save you space however may come at an extra cost, so it’s worth asking what this will be with the installer you choose. Still, if you are wanting to relocate your boiler to a different room or wall, then additional pipe work will be needed.
As a result, this will add to the cost of your new boiler installation. Our consultants will advise on the best location for your new boiler and tell you if there will be any additional costings, so you can make an informed decision on what would suit you best.

Your existing boiler and central heating system

If your old boiler and central heating system have not been replaced or serviced frequently in the past 10+ years, it is greatly recommended to perform a power flush during the installation of your new boiler to get rid of any sludge in your system which could cause severe damage.

A power flush does come at an additional cost to the initial boiler replacement however can make a great difference to how efficiently your boiler and heating system performs and prevent damages or breakdowns.

What happens on the day of the installation?

Ableforce’s local, certified engineer will come to your home with everything they’ll need to carry out the works for the boiler installation at the time and date agreed with you previously.

You’ll need to be at the property to allow our engineer access. Your engineer will talk you through the extent of the work they will carrying out, so you know what to expect when it’s carried out and after the work has been completed.

Before your engineer even starts work, dust sheets will be placed down and carpet protectors to keep the mess to a minimum.

Whilst the engineer is hard at work, you don’t need to be at the property if you do not wish to be. An average boiler installation may take around a day or two to complete, just be sure to check when you need to be back at your home so they can talk you through how your new boiler system works.

As well as carrying out the installation of your boiler, the engineer may also need to carry out previously mentioned as a power flush. This is an additional process which simply gets rid of any dirt and sludge that may be inside the system after the boiler has been put together.

What happens after the installation?

Your engineer will test your new boiler to check that its in working order and as it should be, then they will also clean up the area where they’ve been working, making sure it’s as just as clean as before the installation began.

They’ll explain to you how all the controls work, showing you how to operate your boiler and hot water, so you don’t have to worry about getting to grips with it all by yourself.

At a later date, you’ll receive a call from a member of our dedicated customer service team, who will ask you how the boiler installation went and whether you were satisfied with the engineer and their work.
